Police in Kanungu are currently investigating the suspicious death of a 77-year-old woman, Teopista Tibabuza, whose body was discovered in her home by a pastor.

Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate says that on November 20, 2023, at around midday, Pastor Tumugabe Gerald went to visit Tibabuza for fellowship and found her residence locked and the compound untouched. Concerned by the lack of response, the pastor sought information from neighbors, ultimately discovering Tibabuza’s lifeless body in her bed.

Maate further reveals that the deceased’s son-in-law, John Mugisha, reported to the police that Tibabuza had recently sold a garden of maize for an undisclosed amount. The scene of the crime revealed signs of strangulation, including a swollen eye, fresh scratches, and bruises on the neck.

The police conducted a postmortem at the site, and the body was subsequently released to the family for burial. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding Tibabuza’s death are currently underway.
