Rukiga County’s aspirant Member of Parliament, the Honorable Patrick Kiconco Katabazi, widely known as KP, has issued a rallying call for collective action in combating the rising poverty levels within communities.

Speaking on Sunday , March 24, 2023, during Palm Sunday celebrations at Bukinda Catholic Parish Kakatunda, Katabazi highlighted the urgent need for stakeholders to unite in addressing the pressing issue of poverty.

Katabazi, who also serves as the City Council, emphasized that in the Kigezi Sub-region, over 27% of the population continues to languish below the poverty line, resulting in significant social and economic challenges within communities.

He urged believers not only to concentrate on the development of their churches but also to prioritize the well-being of their families. He encouraged them to actively participate in government programs such as the Parish Development Modal (PDM), Emyooga Program, and NAADs, designed to uplift families from poverty.

Additionally, Councilor Patrick Kiconco Katabazi stressed the importance of education in breaking the cycle of poverty, urging parents to prioritize their children’s education.

Furthermore, he advised believers to prioritize their health by regularly seeking medical check-ups to prevent the onset of diseases that could potentially exacerbate financial burdens.

During the service presided over by Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Tukwasibwe William, Katabazi pledged support for the construction of the Sisters House at the parish premises, demonstrating his commitment to addressing community needs beyond poverty alleviation.
