Anger as patients are locked outside Kamukiira health center IV gate

A move by the authorities at Kamukiira health center IV in Kabale southern division to regulate the number of patients accessing the health facility has angered the patients.

The facility started only allowing a total of 15 people at a time while the rest have to wait outside the gate the outbreak of the second wave of COVID-19.

Sights of dozens of patients and their attendants stuck outside the gate in the scotching sun are common.

 Some of the patients are advised to try other health facilities on grounds that they cannot be attended to.

 90 -year -old Keredonia is one of those who are not happy with the manner in which they are treated. She says that the authorities would at least give priority to the elderly since they cannot afford to stand for long.

 Another concerned citizen Deo  Turyatemba says that they should at least allow patients to wait with in the compound of the facility where they can sit down instead of being made to suffer outside the gate.

Daniel Twesigye the officer in charge of Kamukiira Health center IV says they only allow 15patients per shift. He says patients are given numbers as a way of reducing congestions in the health center.

Ivan Rwaboona Mubangyizi, the Kabale municipal medical officer Says when patients are all allowed to enter the facility, they start violating the standard operating procedures and this puts both the health workers and the patients at the risk of contracting Covid-19.
