An assistant Nursing officer attached to Rwashamaire health center IV in Ntungamo district has today succumbed to COVID-19 at Mbarara regional referral hospital.

The deceased has been identified as Sr. Carolyne Orishaba who was barely two months at the facility after being recruited in May.

This brings to three the number of health workers who have succumbed to the second wave of COVID-19 in Ntungamo district.

Nyete Japeth the Ntungamo district senior health inspector says that losing three health workers in a short period is a great challenge to the district.

He revealed that every person must take the fight against COVID-19 seriously and support efforts aimed at wiping it out.

Ntungamo district chairperson Sam Muchunguzi described the incident as very unfortunate as the frontline workers are very vital to the war against COVID-19.

He called on the health workers to support one another and do not be discouraged by the death of their colleague but rather work together so that such incidents are brought to a halt.

He further called on the locals in the district to ensure that they follow standard operating procedures so that to check the spread of the pandemic.
