Underserved Kamwezi community to finally get mobile phone network

The residents of Kibanda Parish in Kamwezi Sub county, Rukiga district are set to get mobile network after several years of struggling to get connected to the rest of the country and the world.

The area which has a total of 12 villages is set to get an MTN telecommunication company after successful engagements championed by Rukiga woman member of parliament Carroline Kamusiime Muhwezi  and leaders of Kamwezi sub county.

The villages of Kashaasha, Kamuuha, Kakanyoro, Kitinda, Kinyamozi, Katungu, Ruboogo, Rwemigungu, Kakamba, Rushojwa, Nyabunyungu and Rwanyakiju have only been relying on the unstable networks from the neighboring Rwanda which is not only inconveniencing but also costly.

The mast will also serve the areas of Kizinga in Ngoma sub county –Ntungamo district.

Finals preparations to have the construction of the mast kickoff are in their final stages and MTN has already confirmed that it will be located in Kinyamozi village.

Christopher Kayenda an area resident says that the locals are excited to have the new development in there are and expressed optimism that this will go an extra mile in easing communication and business.

 Kinyamozi village Local council one chairperson Didas Karegyeya commended the leaders of Kamwezi sub county for working closely with the area woman member of parliament to ensure that they convince MTN to setup the mast in their area. He says that it is disturbing that they have been struggling to get information on time thus losing out of vital updates.

Tedison Niwagaba the Kamwezi Sub County Chairperson says that the team from MTN on Tuesday visited the land that will host the mast and construction will commence very soon.

Deus Kanshabe who led the team from MTN Uganda revealed that the mast will be complete before December 2021.

Caroline Kamusiime Muhwezi the Rukiga woman member of parliament told our reporter on phone that the area has been struggling with the absence of connectivity and hopes that having clear and reliable network will be a big boost to the locals and the entire district.
