The Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament, Catherine Atwakire Ndamira, has lobbied and secured 40 tonnes of maize seeds to be distributed to farmers in the area ahead of the new planting season.
Atwakiire told our reporter today that she lobbied the seeds from various
government and non-governmental agencies, as part of her initiative to
alleviate household poverty among her electorate through ensuring food security and improving household income.
The distribution of the seeds started on Thursday with the sub counties of
Butanda, Kahungye, Ryakarimira and Rubaya while Katuna town council, Kibuga
and Kamuganguzi sub counties received their seeds today.
Atwakiire also cautioned the locals against the practice of rushing to sell off the seeds saying that this deviation fails the intended purpose.
