The Senior Technical Adviser and the Head of the National Sustainable

Development Goals (SDGs) Secretariat at the Office of the Prime

Minister, Dr. Albert Byamugisha has implored Kabale district

political leaders and technocrats to cooperate and work together to

achieve the 17 goals of SDGs.

The goals were adopted by United Nations Member States in 2016 as a

universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure

that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.

They focus more on achieving a world free of poverty and hunger, one with good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, climate action, peace, justice and strong institutions.

Speaking on Friday during a meeting attended by district political leaders and technocrats at Rukiiko hall in Kabale Municipality, aimed at

creating awareness in SDGs, Dr Byamugisha encouraged leaders at all

levels to conduct self-assessment to identify challenges and map

strategic interventions for the progress of the goals.

He also called for more support in district and sub county councils,

especially in the promotion and adoption of people-centered policies

to ensure that no one is left in poverty.

Closing the meeting, the Kabale District Vice Chairperson, Miria

Akankwasa Tugume asked officials from the Office of the Prime Minister to sensitize local leaders and the public about the campaign, if it is to succeed and achieve its aim of fighting poverty.
