Kabale COVID-19 survivor commits suicide

Police in Kabale are investigating circumstances under which a COVID-19 survivor reportedly committed suicide.

The deceased has been identified Safari Godfrey (50) a resident of Nyakahita cell in Kyanamira sub county Kabale district was found dead and his body floating on river Kijuguta a day after he was discharged from Kabale regional referral hospital.

Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate says that the police received a tip off from a concerned citizen that his body was found floating on the river as they family searched for him with locals a day after he went missing.

 Sources from the family say that the deceased was suffering from the COVID-19 and was on the 7th of September 2021 discharged from Kabale hospital before having a meal with the family.

He reportedly left home and could not be traced. Maate said that preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased reportedly committed suicide.
