Kabale man commits suicide

Police in Kabale is investigating unclear circumstances under which one person committed suicide after he attempted to end the life of his wife.  

The deceased is Edward Nsigirenda, a resident of Rwembogo cell, Muyebe parish, Buhara sub-county, Kabale district, who allegedly cut his wife, Lydia Nduhukire, 60, with a panga after suspecting her of having an extramarital relationship.

    Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate says that it’s alleged that the two had a long-standing domestic violence relationship resulting from the above allegations, and two years back, he badly assaulted the victim to the extent of being hospitalized.   

It’s further alleged that, from the hospital, she went to her son’s home in Kakumiro district fearing for her life.      It was in the month of December 2021, when the deceased called his son, Nampa Dickson, requesting the wife to come back home, promising to have reformed. The victim came back and they stayed normally.  

  Yesterday the 09/02/2022, at around 21:00rs after super they all slept. That is the night when the man turned to face her, she heard the panga falling down from the bed. Immediately the man picked it up and cut her hand. She made an alarm that attracted people who rushed her to Buhara health center III, leaving the man inside the house.    The man knowing that had killed her, then hanged himself with a rope inside the bed room after locking the house from inside.    

Police at Buhara were notified, informed the Central police station who Kabale which visited the scene, was documented,    Maate further revealed that a Postmortem was done at the site, checked on the admitted victim at the health center, and issued her with police medical forms as investigations continue.
