The state minister for industry, trade and cooperatives David Bahati, has asked the leaders of Ndorwa west Kabale district to embrace the government’s program of the parish development model which is aimed at transforming communities.

Minister Bahati while addressing Ndorwa west leaders at Arcadia Cottages Bunyonyi in Kitumba sub county Kabale district  today revealed that parish development model has pillars which include Production, Processing, Storage, marketing, social services, mind set change among others.

He revealed that after the President’s launch on 26th Februaryin the Eastern district of kibuku, by July people will have been fully sensitized about parish development from district, Sub County to parish forming parish development committees to be ready to receive the resources.

The minister revealed that beneficiaries would access the funds via their SACCOs immediately after the launch and added that there are pre-launch activities on going across the country.

Bahati  said that key among the activities is the recruitment of parish chiefs, establishment and training of parish development committees, set up of the community information system and mobilization of the masses at national and local government level.

He said that the parish model project is a strategy for organizing and delivering public and private sector interventions for wealth creation and employment generation, in a move to eradicate poverty.

Uganda has 10,594 parishes and all of them will benefit from the program and we have already started mobilizing and preparing people so that they can take off.

Bahati said that under the model, the government aims to graduate the 39 per cent of households in the subsistence economy into agents of wealth creation in the monetized economy.

Bahati said that the intended outcomes of the program are to increase the commercial production of priority commodities at the parish level and to increase household incomes in the process.

Minister Bahati further noted that in the budget of administration for the parish development model administration they are a provision of where the Sacco offices will be.

Christopher Namara, the Kabale district community development officer emphasized the need for stakeholders to give clear information to people.
