Ntungamo Deputy RDC Calls for collective responsibility towards ending HIV/AIDS

Locals, civil servants, and politicians have been urged to embrace collective responsibility towards ending HIV/AIDS.

The call was today made by Ntungamo deputy resident district commissioner Isaiah Kanyamahane while speaking at the closure of a district stakeholder engagement meeting on accountability for HIV/AIDS, TB Malaria, and Human rights held at Ntungamo resort Hotel.

Kanyamahane revealed that while remarkable steps have been taken towards ending HIV/AIDS, there is a need for collective responsibility towards ending HIV and revealed that the population must be healthy if economic development is to be realized.

He also commended the people living with HIV who opened up and are championing the fight against the disease.

Ntungamo district secretary for health and education who also doubles and the councilor for Itojo sub country  Bibiana Kakinoni revealed that the locals have an obligation to work together and ensure that they help people with HIV/AIDS so that they achieve their full potential.

Peace Kaconco the president of persons living with HIV/AIDS in Ntungamo district urged the locals in the district not to be ashamed of having HIV but rather understand their situation, open up and accept their situation if the fight against HIV/AIDS is to be fruitful.

Kaconco also commended the government for supporting persons living with HIV/AIDS as well ensuring that they check on the spread of the virus.

Kaconco also doubles as a member of the National forum for persons living with HIV/AIDS.

The meeting was organized with support from the international community of women living with HIV Eastern Africa-ICWEA.

ICWEA was started way back in 2005 by women who wanted to have issues challenging women addressed
