Minister Bahati donates to families affected by hailstorm

At least 80 families including a church, whose houses were destroyed by hail storm in Ryakarimira town council, Butanda, Rubaya, and Kahungye sub-counties of Kabale district have received 650 iron sheets from the state minister of trade industry and cooperatives David Bahati.

On Wednesday 09 March houses were destroyed by a strong hailstorm that hit Kabale district. The hailstorm occurred during a heavy downpour that started at around 1:00 pm and lasted for more than an hour. The hailstorm affected houses.

Most of the roofs of some houses were blown off, while others were completely destroyed, crops and properties were destroyed.

This prompted Minister Bahati to intervene quickly before the Government since many people were homeless. On Friday minister Bahati delivered 650 iron sheets to the affected church, families of Butanda, kahungye sub-counties and Ryakarimira town council.

The support has excited beneficiaries. Rev Dickens Turyahabwa the Parish priest Rubaya church of Uganda who received 50 iron sheets has lauded Minister Bahati for giving them help since they were helpless on the next move.

Justin Arineitwe, the counselor Lc 5 Kahungye parish in Kahungey sub-county commended Hon David Bahati for being timely in helping those who were affected. She asked min Bahati to use local leaders when they document those who were affected so that they can receive assistance from the Government.

Bahati while speaking said that he managed to secure the lives of people in time before the government could also bring assistance. He said that they have already finalized documentation of affected people and sent them to the office of the prime minister.

He added that after the hailstorm he called the prime minister and the minister of disaster and preparedness about the incident.

He told the public to plant trees in a move to conserve the environment and avoid such problems in the future.
