Kabale hospital on the spot over alleged negligence

Kabale regional referral hospital in Kabale municipality has come under fire from locals over alleged negligence that resulted in the death of an expectant mother.

The incident which reportedly led to the death of one Sharon Asiimwe who had just given birth to a bouncing baby boy occurred on the 26th of April 2022.

The relatives to the deceased whose names have been withheld for security reasons told African Pearl News –APN that the midwives on duty at the facility neglected the mother shortly after giving birth as she bled profusely while they were busy on their phones.

Our reporter has also seen a copy of the letter dated 29th of April authored by Kabale resident district commissioner Godfrey Nyakahuma addressed to the criminal investigations department calling for investigations into the matter.

The commissioner indicates that his office had received a complaint from the deceased’s family and instructed the criminal investigations department of police to take up the matter and furnish him with a comprehensive report on the matter and take necessary legal action.

The letter copied to the district chairperson, Director Kabale regional referral hospital, Regional internal security officer, Regional crime investigations department of Kigezi, District internal security officer, and district police commander Kabale indicates that the conduct of the health workers on duty was a direct abuse of office and culpable for the loss of life which they were under obligation to protect and preserve in accordance with the line of duty.
