Kabale RDC calls for investigations over the leasing of sub-county land

 By Byamukama Libino.

The Kabale District Resident District Commissioner Godfrey Nyakahuma has called for investigations into the unclear circumstances under which the Buhara sub-county leadership leased out 20acres of land for 20yrs at only 50000 monthly.

Nyakahuma’s intervention follows the decision by the sub-county councilors to protest the move that was executed by the sub-county chief and the local council three chairperson without their knowledge.

The land in question was leased out to Sino Mining company enterprises.

The angry councilors revealed that the decision by the council was only to lease the land for five years but was instead shocked to see that the land was instead leased for a period of 20 years.

They accuse the sub-county chairperson Joseph  Baryamujura and the sub-county chief Allen Kakuru for having changed a resolution of the council.

In her defense, the Sub-county chief Kakulu Allen said that they leased that the leased land belongs to the government and that no one should start saying that it belongs to a parish of Sub County.

She revealed that the land is for the district and she was acting on behalf of the chief administrative officer.

Joseph  Baryamujura the sub-county chairperson claims that the sub-county’s sectoral committee was responsible for altering the decision by the council.

The Kabale Residents District Commissioner   Godfrey Nyakahuma referred their issues of leasing the land without the approval of the council to the Chief Administrative Officer for further investigations.

He further revealed that the matter will be referred to the government inspector general for their intervention.
