The state minister for trade, industry, and cooperatives David Bahati has commended Compassion International for strengthening for consideration of underprivileged children through Educating.

His message as the guest of honor was read to him by the Kabale Vice Chairperson Miria Akakwasa Tugume during the Thanksgiving of Kamuganguzi Child Development Centre Alumni and fundraising towards the construction of a guest house at Kamuganguzi compassion on Sunday.

The function was held at St John’s Kamuganguzi parish in Kamuganguzi sub-county Kabale district, in a church service that was presided over by Ven. Capt. Agripa Kyarikunda.

In his call, Minister Bahati noted that compassion has helped most of the poor children to be raised into important people in this country not only in Kamuganguzi, something which we should not take for granted rather than to thank God.

He said that he wonders if compassion wasn’t put in place how most of the children will be now. Bahati noted that the scripture implores us to feed the hungry, receive strangers in our homes, and clothe the naked.

Bahati commended the church and diocese of Kigezi Bishop Gaddie Akanjuna for preaching the gospel and how Christians should work together to improve their household income-generating activities.

Min Bahati cautioned Christians to be careful and desist from moving to places where Ebola has been found, following presidential directives.

Min Bahati contributed Ugx 5m towards the construction of the guest house.

Mrs. Alice Akampurira project director of Kamuganguzi in her speech noted that Kamuganguzi Child Development Centre supports 393 participants and has been in existence for close to 30 years. The participants are at different education levels: Nursery school 35, Primary school 296, Secondary school 22, Vocational/Tertiary institutions 37, and University 2.

She added that Compassion’s support is mainly for child support and activities that directly impact participants and cannot be used to do construction work. 15 projects of the Diocese of Kigezi including ours are about to be phased out, yet the Church/Community still has vulnerable children.

She further revealed that they have opted to build a guest wing to raise funds to boost the ministry so that we may continue to support vulnerable participants in the community when the project phases out. We believe this is one of the strategies to ensure that the child and youth ministry at the Church is self-sustaining.

Elvis Nzeirwe, the Katuna Town Council Mayor is worried after the Kamuganguzi Child Development centre phased out saying that Christians should be thinking about how underprivileged children will be raised.

He commended Minister Bahati for his great contribution towards the development of different projects in the constituency.
