A friendly match between Buhara Youth and Boda-Boda cyclists in Buhara Sub-county, Ndorwa East, Kabale district, ended with a score of 2-1 in favor of the youth on Sunday.

The event was organized by Alexander Kyokwijuka, one of the sports fanatics in the Kigezi Sub-region.

Synid Turyatunga scored the first goal for Buhara Youth at 25 minutes, and that was the only goal in the first half of the match. John Katabire later blessed the Youth with another goal in the 47th minute, just at the start of the second half. Later, a penalty by the Boda-Boda team from Surprise, Alex Niwahereza, saw them get a goal in the 60th minute.

Some of the players who took part in the game hailed the organizer for an initiative that will see sports promoted in their area. However, they called on other stakeholders in the country to also consider rural areas in their search for talents to promote in national football.

“If we had scouts for these national teams coming down to the villages, we could see some of our talented young people picked for more professional soccer,” said Xavier Musika, one of the players from the Buhara Youth team.

Moses Taremwa, another player from the Boda-Boda team, called on the government to improve the infrastructure of sporting facilities in rural areas so that their full potential could be realized.

Alexander Kyokwijuka, the organizer of these games, said that he is on a mission to help the youth in the area realize their talents and improve them.

“We shall be organizing more competitions in the future, and a variety of people will be incorporated in this to make more impact,” said Kyokwijuka.
