At least 1320 beneficiaries in Ntungamo district have received the Parish Development Model (PDM) revolving loan cash, money meant to aid the poorest of the poor in moving from subsistence farming to commercial agriculture.

The distribution of the money that started on Thursday last week climaxed with the project launch on Monday at the Ntungamo district headquarters, with at least UShs 1.32 billion being distributed to the beneficiaries.

The Ntungamo district community development officer, Mr. Ambrose Tusiime, said the beneficiaries selected from the over 230 parishes in 34 sub-counties and town councils of the district received UShs 1 million delivered through different banking institutions.

Speaking during the launch of the program in the district, the deputy resident district commissioner, Mr. Robert Kamuntu, asked implementers to minimize conflict resulting from beneficiary selection and the refund of the money.

The district chairperson, Mr. Samuel Mucunguuzi Rwakigoba, said the key to the program is the announcement of the road development fund of UShs 1 billion, which will aid the district in increasing the number of road kilometers worked on in a single financial year.

With 1015 villages in the district, the beneficiaries getting the cash are a simple drop in the ocean, averaging at least one person per village.
