Emyooga SACCOS in Bushenyi are on the verge of collapsing due to the poor rates of recovery the beneficiaries are using to pay the money they took.

According to resident district commissioner RDC Bushenyi Robert Atuhairwe, Bushenyi district received over 1.573 b across two constituencies and a municipality, with each Sacco receiving 30 m and some others, especially leaders, receiving 50 m each.

However, since the program launched in 2019, only 30% of the money disbursed has been recovered, and the process of recovering the balance has started to ensure Emyooga money and its target are not dying of nature’s death, according to Atuhairwe, the RDC.

Atuhairwe added that during their sensitization meeting and annual general meeting, most Saccos discovered that members who took the money went for green pastures outside the country while others shifted from the district, but as security and chief monitors of these programs have intensified the hunt for them, they will ensure the money they took is paid back.

He also mentioned some of the Emyooga Sacco whose recovery rate is too low, like leaders and journalists Sacco, among others, and that efforts to recover the money have commenced.

Christine Hope Komujuni, the municipal commercial officer, said that though some people who had borrowed money from the Saccos failed to pay it back, there are some Saccos who are already in the second batch.
