Ntungamo district has this afternoon rewarded three pupils at the primary schools national kids athletics competitions for this year, held in Luwero district in May.

The pupils, who include Isaac Arinanye from Itojo (Gold medal) Boys Primary School, Elijah Angarikiremu (Bronze medal) from Kitunga Boarding Primary School, and Marvin Turyahikayo (silver medal) from Kabungo II Primary School, each got a medal.

Each of the pupils was gifted with a brand new mattress, while the head teachers of their schools were each given a pair of bed sheets.

Speaking at the handover of the gifts at Ntungamo district headquarters, Asuman Kigongo, the Ntungamo district vice chairperson, revealed that sports are very vital and must be given priority.

He also personally gifted each pupil with 50,000 shillings, which he revealed was aimed at motivating them and others to embrace sports.

Ntungamo district principal assistant secretary Fedelis Kiiza called on the head teachers to always attach value to sports, saying that they help instill discipline in pupils.

Ntungamo district education officer Fred Bahati revealed that all the schools in the district must participate in athletics because there is a vote for the co-curricular activities, which must be put to good use.

Acting Ntungamo sports officer Eli Muhumuza revealed that the district is making vital steps towards improving sports in schools through encouraging the participation of all.
