Kale Kayihura praises Museveni on decision making

The former Inspector General of Police, Retired General Kale Kayihura, has praised President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s integrity and exceptional way of making decisions with no rush.

Kayihura made the statements Saturday at Shaza Play Ground in Kisoro Municipality at his homecoming celebration.

Kayihura, who was battling two counts of failure to protect war materials and aiding and abetting the kidnapping and repatriation of Rwandan exiles, refugees, and Ugandan citizens to Rwanda between 2012 and 2016, had all of them dropped by the court martial in August this year.

Speaking to thousands of people that had congregated to welcome him in Kisoro for the first time since 2021, Kayihura said that many people kept telling him to speak out his innocence but kept quiet because he trusted in the president and the UPDF, whose systems observe justice.

He also declined reports that he was pardoned, saying that charges against him were dropped because he was innocent and falsely accused by people who had their own interests.

He also commended his comrade members of the military force who did not betray him but continued to give him confidence in the systems of the UPDF, especially the court martial. Among them are Lieutenant Andrew Gutti, General Muhoozi Keinerugaba, and General Akandwanaho Caleb, aka Salim Sale, among others.

General Kayihura emotionally thanked the people of Kisoro, led by district chairman Abel Bizimana, for leading to his retirement as a proud military officer. He expressed unending love for the Kisoro people but disclaimed political interests.

In his summons, the Bishop of Muhabura Docese, Rt Rev. Godfrey Mbitse, asked believers to always do good to their fellows and love each other so that their legacy can speak for them, as it has done to Gneral Kayihura.

The Kisoro district LCV chairman, Abel Bizimana, congratulated General Kale on the hard times he went through during his imprisonment and travel ban, saying that his prayer has been answered.
