Two people were held over cattle theft in Kiruhura district.

Police in Kiruhura District are holding two suspects, Bwambale Felix, 32 years old, a Mukonjo by tribe, a businessman resident of Rushere Hospital Zone, Rushere Town Council, Kiruhura District, and Kwijuka Ismail, 40 years old, a munyankole by tribe, a businessman resident of Central Zone, Rushere Town Council, Kiruhura District, on suspected stealing of cattle.

Rwizi regional police spokesperson Samson Kasasira says that the two were intercepted on October 7, 2023, at about 0130 hours while travelling in motor vehicle registration number UAK 028T at Kyanyeba-Rushere, Rushere Town Council, in transit. Upon search, they were found in possession of offals, skins, and hides; cut off heads of cattle and meat; hence, apprehending them; and are currently held at the central police station in Kiruhura District.

Kasasira adds that the motor vehicle registration number UAK 028T was impounded, searched, and exhibits recovered are six cut-off heads of cows, ten hides of cows, three for goats, offals of six cows, and 24 hooves of cattle.

The veterinary officer was brought on board, and his preliminary report was retrieved on the disposal of the same.

On interrogation of the suspects, they revealed others who are still at large and are being tracked to be arrested and prosecuted.
