Teacher arrested for defilement

In Kabale District, law enforcement authorities apprehended Ambrose Rukundo, a 31-year-old educator employed at Triple M Primary School and a resident of Kibuzije village in Rubanda district.

Rukundo stands accused of involvement in a sexual encounter with a 17-year-old student hailing from the same educational institution.

The incident came to the attention of the authorities through a report filed by Sam Katama, a 40-year-old resident of Karushanga village in Kaharo sub-county, Kabale district.

According to the police statement dated 21/10/2023, at approximately 10:00 PM in Ahamurambi village within Kaharo sub-county, the alleged perpetrator summoned the victim to the staff room, ostensibly to retrieve some books. It is here that he is alleged to have coerced her into engaging in a sexual act.

Of particular note, the police report highlights that the suspect did not employ any protection during the act. Subsequent to the incident, he reportedly provided the victim with 5,000/= and instructed her to maintain silence regarding the encounter.

The victim, following the ordeal, disclosed the incident to her father, who promptly lodged a complaint with the Njanja Police Station. This led to the arrest of Ambrose Rukundo.

Elly Maate, the Police spokesperson for the Kigezi Region, disclosed that Deputy Superintendent Mukama Hakim from the Criminal Investigations Department, along with his team, visited and examined the crime scene. They conducted a detailed sketch plan, obtained pertinent statements from witnesses, and ensured that the victim underwent a thorough medical examination.
