A 53-year-old woman, Bainenama Olivia, was brutally murdered in her own home, frightening the community of Nyarurambi cell in Kasheshe parish, Butanja sub-county, Rukungiri district.
The incident is said to have occurred on December 11, 2023, at approximately 1700 hrs. Bainenama’s husband, Mugisha Abel, discovered the gruesome scene upon returning home around 1800 hours after grazing his goats. The victim was found lifeless in the kitchen, having been fatally attacked by an unknown assailant.
The sequence of events leading to the tragic outcome began earlier in the day when Bainenama requested money from her husband to purchase hens. Mugisha Abel, complying with his wife’s request, gave her 40,000 shillings. Subsequently, Bainenama visited the Kasheshe trading center, where she purchased two hens from a local seller before heading home.
The discovery of the crime scene prompted Mugisha Abel to contact Akandwanaho Edwin, the deceased’s daughter. Edwin, upon receiving the distressing news, promptly reported the murder to the authorities.
Rukungiri District Police swiftly launched an investigation into the incident, registering the case under SD Reference 46/11/12/2023. Homicide staff were dispatched to the scene of the crime, where they meticulously examined and documented the area. Statements were recorded from relevant witnesses, shedding light on the events leading up to the tragic incident.
During the investigation, an exhibit in the form of a panga was recovered from the crime scene, adding a crucial piece to the puzzle. The victim’s body was subsequently transported to RwaKabengo Health Centre III mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
ASP Elly Maate, the spokesperson for the Kigezi region police, expressed the gravity of the situation and assured the public that every effort would be made to apprehend the perpetrator(s) and bring them to justice. The motive behind the heinous act remains unclear, and the police are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
As the community grapples with shock and grief, the focus now turns to uncovering the truth behind Bainenama Olivia’s untimely demise and ensuring that justice is served.
