The Rubanda District Health Officer, Dr. Abdon Birungi, has called on caretakers of patients in health facilities to always take responsibility for protecting the equipment and property in these facilities, saying that the damage and misuse of equipment in health facilities are always costly to repair and replace.

Dr. Birungi was today speaking at Rubanda District Rukiiko Hall, where the district authorities were disbursing 32 medical equipment beds and their mattresses to the three health facilities of Hamurwa Health Center IV, Ruhija, and Bubaare Health Center III.

Dr. Birungi said that some of the caretakers of patients have a habit of sleeping together with admitted patients on a bed meant for patients, while others don’t properly use places like the toilets of the facility, which is one of the main reasons for the early damage to this equipment and property. He emphasized the need for caretakers to be vigilant and report any malfunctioning or damage to the equipment immediately to enable timely repairs and prevent further damage.

Handing over the beds to the town clerks of Bubaare and Hamurwa town council, respectively, Rubanda District LC5 Chairperson Steven Ampeire Kasyaba said that out of the 32 beds, 16 were procured with the donation of 20 million shillings from the Insurance Regulatory Authority under corporate social responsibility, while the other 16 beds were purchased using result-based funds that the Ministry of Health gave Hamurwa Health Center IV for providing better services to the patients.
