Fidel Mubangizi, renowned for his expertise in accounting, has announced his entry into the political arena, eyeing the Rushenyi county seat in the upcoming 2026 general elections under the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

In an interview with our reporter on Friday, Mubangizi revealed that his decision, fueled by a desire to revolutionize the mindset of the Rushenyi people, marks a significant departure from his previous career.

Mubangizi, acknowledging the history of electoral violence and extremist activities in Rushenyi, pledged a non-violent approach to his political campaign, urging his supporters to follow suit.

He emphasized that the county has been marred by instances of voter bribery, resulting in the election of leaders with narrow interests and subsequent poor service delivery.

Addressing concerns about the prevalent vote-selling culture, Mubangizi issued a stern warning to Rushenyi residents and Ugandans at large, urging them to resist the temptation and instead demand improved service delivery. He stressed that his entry into politics is driven by a commitment to fostering positive change and advocating for the needs of the people.

Ahead of the 2025–2026 electoral campaigns, Mubangizi cautioned his supporters against engaging in any form of violence. He expressed optimism that, with the support of the electorate, he will prioritize organizing meetings in each sub-county to understand the needs and concerns of the people, subsequently presenting them on the floor of the Ugandan parliament.

Mubangizi outlined his vision for Rushenyi County, emphasizing advocacy for improved service delivery in crucial areas such as health, education, and water. He also pledged to lobby for government projects aimed at benefiting the community, including road infrastructure to facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce to markets.

Acknowledging the importance of decentralization in bringing services closer to the people, Mr. Mubangizi highlighted the challenges in its implementation. He committed to utilizing the opportunity presented by decentralization to serve the people diligently, addressing the gaps, and ensuring that government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, Youth Livelihood, and Uganda Women’s Entrepreneurship (UWEP) are embraced by the residents of Rushenyi.

Mubangizi urged the people of Rushenyi to actively participate in and support government projects, envisioning a transformative shift from subsistence to a money economy among households in Uganda.

Rushenyi County is currently represented by Naome Kabasharira in the parliament of Uganda.
