Headteacher remanded over alleged forgery

By Joseph Tweheyo

The grade one magistrate’s court in Bushenyi District on Friday remanded Ms. Lilian Ayebazibwe 56 on two accounts of forgery.

The fully packed court, presided over by Her Worship Halima Omar Ahamed, sent Ms. Ayebazibwe to Namushekyera government prison until Tuesday, March 5, 2024.

The court found that Ms. Ayebazibwe forged the primary leaving examination certificate of one Blessed Ahareza, a pupil at Bubaare primary school in Bushenyi District, contrary to Sections 234 and 347 of the Penal Code.

Ms. Ayebazibwe, who is the head teacher of Bubaare Primary School, was also charged with releasing forged PLE results, knowing that the examination results were held by UNEB over multipratice. However, Ms. Ayebazibwe denied all the charges.

Represented by Kenneth Oyiine of Kamugisha Daus, and company advocates told the court that the suspect is of advanced age; she had spent the past 48 hours in police custody, and her health was deteriorating, praying for bail, which was denied.

In her submission, Ms. Halima said that her court has no mandate and that the file has not been allocated by the chief magistrate, hence being remanded until Tuesday.
