Under the guidance of Chairperson Steven Kasyaba, the Rubanda District Leadership has taken a crucial stride in improving maternal healthcare. They have inaugurated the expansion of the maternity ward at Ruhija Health Center III, a project valued at Ugx 109 million in Ruhija Sub County, Rubanda District.

Chairperson Kasyaba highlighted the challenges faced by mothers before the extension, citing insufficient space that allowed only four beds in the ward. He expressed concern about the inadequacy, considering the population’s needs in the area. Kasyaba anticipates that the expanded facility will bring relief to mothers in Ruhija and neighboring regions, emphasizing the positive impact of well-maintained health facilities on access to medical care and household income.

Additionally, the district authorities commissioned a building at Nyamabaare Health Center II in Ikumba Sub County and provided new beds at Hamurwa Health Center IV, as well as beds at Bubare Health Center III.

Kasyaba disclosed that the extra funding of Ugx 109 million for Ruhija Health Center III was secured through lobbying efforts by Minister Henry Musasizi, the State Minister for Finance in charge of general duties and Rubanda East Mp.

Chairperson Kasyaba urged residents to cherish and responsibly use the facility, emphasizing community involvement for the effective functioning and sustainability of the maternity wing.

District Health Officer Abdon Birungi noted that the health center receives around 30 expectant mothers each month, underscoring the necessity of a well-equipped maternity ward for safe deliveries. He disclosed that the hospital is currently at 83% capacity, ensuring it can fulfill essential responsibilities.

The residents of Rubanda District express joy over the inauguration of the new maternity wing, believing it will play a crucial role in reducing maternal and infant mortality by enhancing healthcare services. This accomplishment reflects the district leadership’s commitment to prioritizing community well-being.

As a token of appreciation, residents presented Chairperson Kasyaba with a cock and matooke, symbolizing their gratitude for his leadership in advancing the development of the maternity ward.
