Rubanda woman Mp donates scholastic materials to best performers

The Rubanda District Woman Member of Parliament, Prosy Akampurira, has today embarked on donating blankets, books, and pens to the candidates who sat for the 2022 Primary Leaving Examination in the district and passed in the first and second grades, as a way of improving education standards.

The 292 candidates who passed in first grade in the district are each entitled to a blanket, five books, and five pens, while each of the 1,510 candidates who passed in second grade is entitled to five books and five pens. 

Launching the distribution of items to the beneficiaries at the sub-county headquarters, the Ruhija Sub-County LC5 Councillor, who is also her coordinator, Clement Kabaana Ekyarikunda, said that the donation is intended to improve the academic standards in the district.

He added that Akampurira also intends to encourage parents to educate their children in the schools within the Rubanda district and support families in such an economic crisis. He advised parents to send their children to schools in their respective districts as part of improving education standards and to avoid expensive schools.

Beneficiary parents, including John Ainebyona and Sofia Tindibuha, commended the legislator for the initiative, saying that it will reduce the cost of sending children to secondary school.

Out of the 4,016 candidates who sat for PLE exams in Rubanda district, 292 came in the first grade, 1,510 came in the second grade, 955 scored the third grade, and 493 scored the fourth grade, while 486 were ungraded and 280 candidates did not turn in their exams. Out of the 486 failures, 324 are boys, while 162 are girls, and out of the 280 candidates who didn’t turn up, 198 are boys and 82 are girls. The district became the second in greater Kabale after Rukiga district, which became the first, and Kabale became the third.
