Rubanda District took a significant step forward as authorities, under the leadership of LC.5 Chairperson Ampeire Stephen Kasyaba, initiated the construction of a Girls’ dormitory valued at Shs. 150 million in Bubare Secondary School, located in Bubare Town Council.

The endeavor, launched yesterday, was entrusted to Epic Fine Services and Contractors Ltd., as affirmed by the Acting Rubanda District Engineer, Bob Bwebare. He outlined the dormitory’s design, consisting of three quarters, with construction anticipated to conclude within four months, followed by a commissioning ceremony to mark its readiness for occupancy.

Chairman Kasyaba emphasized that this development was part of a broader initiative aimed at addressing accommodation shortages in government-aided schools across Rubanda District. He revealed that the funding, totaling Shs. 150 million, was secured through additional allocations from the central government, facilitated by State Minister of Finance (General Duties) Henry Musasizi, who also serves as the Rubanda East Member of Parliament and NRM Chairperson for the district.

Looking ahead, Kasyaba disclosed plans for another Shs. 150 million allocation in the forthcoming financial year to construct an additional girls’ dormitory at Bubare S.S., aiming to alleviate congestion in one of Rubanda’s most populous schools.

“The objective is to create a conducive environment for female students, ultimately fostering improved academic performance,” Kasyaba articulated, underscoring the importance of quality construction. He urged the contractor to uphold standards and called upon the District Technical Team and School Management to diligently oversee the project’s execution to ensure satisfactory outcomes.

The Chairperson of the Board of Governors at Bubare Secondary School, Mr. Aggrey Yesigomwe, expressed gratitude for the timely intervention, citing the acute shortage of accommodation facilities for female students as a major challenge. He credited the District Authorities, led by Chairman Kasyaba, and Minister Musasizi for their unwavering support to the school.

Amos Ahimbisibwe, a teacher at Bubare S.S., hailed the initiative as historic, marking the first instance of Rubanda District Local Government directly undertaking dormitory construction at the school. He pledged to actively monitor the construction process to uphold quality standards.

Established by the Anglican Church under the Diocese of Kigezi, Bubare S.S. stands as one of Rubanda District’s oldest secondary schools and is among the ten government-aided institutions in the area.

In the 2023 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results, Bubare S.S. showcased its academic prowess, ranking as the top-performing school in Rubanda District. This achievement propelled its national ranking from 1000 in 2022 to 158th in the country, underscoring its commitment to academic excellence.
