Accident Claims Student’s Life in Mbarara City

A tragedy struck Mbarara City’s Central Division as a hit-and-run accident claimed the life of a young pedestrian on Thursday evening. The incident, which occurred at approximately 4:20 p.m. local time, has left the community in shock and mourning.

According to a statement released by the Mbarara City Police, the fatal accident took place at the bridge before Nyamitanga along the Mbarara-Kabale Road. The victim, identified as Ndyanabo Fred, a student at St. Joseph Vocational School in Mbarara, tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Rwizi regional police spokesperson Samson Kasasira revealed that the eyewitnesses reported that the incident involved a motor vehicle identified as UAV 096U, an Isuzu Forward model in green. The vehicle, allegedly traveling from the Kabale side towards Mbarara, lost control at the bridge, resulting in a collision with Ndyanabo Fred, who was walking along the left lane towards the town.

Kasasira further revealed that the authorities have initiated investigations into the matter, with efforts underway to track down the driver responsible for the hit-and-run. The registration number plates of the vehicle have been identified, and law enforcement is utilizing CCTV camera footage to aid in the search.

Following the accident, the body of the deceased was transported to the mortuary at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination. Meanwhile, the community has been left reeling from the loss as inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident continue.
