Niwamanya Dickson alias Kihanga scored a late winner against Nyamityobora Football Club to give Kigezi Home Boyz Football Club their first win in the ongoing 2021/2022 Federation of Uganda Football Association- FUFA Big League.

The Western derby match played on Sunday evening at Kabale Municipal stadium ended 2-1 in favor of Kigezi Home Boys who had been reduced to 10 men after Baluku Robert Santos was given matching orders by the Centre referee.

Clinton Kamugisha gave Nyamityobora FC lead with a clinical finis in the 28th minute, but the joy was short-lived as Norman Namanya pulled out an equalizer for Home Boyz F in the 64th minute.

The visitors enjoyed ball possession and threatened to break through in the second half, but Kigezi Home Boys put up a spirited resistance with a solid midfield commanded by Captain Fiat Cleophas.

The game remained 1-1 until the 89th minute when Niwamanya ended Nyamityobora’s hopes with a left leg shot following a quick counter attack that was launched by Home Boyz goal keeper Ismael.

After the match, Nyamityobora’s Team Coach led the players out of the pitch visibly dejected and our reporter was not able to have an interview with any of them.

However, while speaking in a post-match Interview with African Pearl News, Kigezi Home Boys’ Team Coach Mark Twinamasiko was full of praise for Dickson Niwamanya, best known as Kihanga, at home.

“Kihanga has been our star today and he remains very key to this football club. He is one of the best forwards in Western Uganda, and we are proud to have him on our side, ” Twinamasiko said.

Kigezi Home Boys’ Media Officer Timothy Tuhumwire noted that the team was getting back to the winning ways after failing to get three points from their previous five matches, where they scored only two goals in all.

Before the Nyamityobora match, Kigezi Home Boys had lost 4-0 to Proline FC, and 2-1 to Luweero United. They had also drawn 0-0 with water FC and 1-1 with Ndejje University. According to Timothy, they expect much more wins against the next two Western Uganda Derbies.

Kigezi Home Boys will play Terazo and Tiles at Kakyeka Stadium in Mbarara city on 22nd April, before they host Tooro United at Kabale Municipal Stadium on 25th April 2021.
