Two Child Development Centers (CDCs) under Compassion International Uganda have been phased out in Kabale district.

They are UG701 Al Saints Church CDC in Kabale Municipality and UG708 Kyisasa CDC in Kamuganguzi sub-county Ndorwa County West.  Compassion International Uganda is a child-advocacy ministry pairing compassionate people with children living in extreme poverty to release the children from spiritual, economic, social, and physical poverty.

According to the National Coordinator for Compassion International, Lenny Mugisha the two branches were phased out after serving for more than 29 years in the Child and Youth Development Ministry. Mugisha says that the two branches were phased out the two branches, after realizing that there are other areas that are in need of extreme support for Compassion International.

Speaking yesterday during the function to celebrate the achievements of the two branches held at St Peter’s Cathedral, Rugarama in Kabale Municipality, the State Minister for Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, David Bahati, who was the guest of honor, commended Compassion International for supporting the hungry and needy children in the district, so that they can turn into responsible citizens in future.

Bahati, who is also the Ndorwa County West Member of Parliament, also urged religious institutions to start-up income-generating activities such as vegetable and Irish potato growing, which will support church projects, when donors phase-out.

The Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, Rt Rev George Bagamuhunda, asked parents, religious leaders, and other stakeholders to involve children in church activities if they are to be successful in the future. Bagamuhunda adds that children in the affected branches will join the nearby CDCs which are still operating.

The National Coordinator for Compassion International, Lenny Mugisha said they phased out the two branches, after realizing that there are other areas that are in need of extreme support for Compassion International.
