Rifle stolen from Kisoro security guard recovered in Kabale

A gun that was stolen from the late Erick Habomugisha, a private security guard attached to Special Weapons and Tactics (SWATT) early this month has today been recovered in Kabale District.

Habomugisha 35, a   resident of Kanyabukungu village, Gisorora parish, Nyakabande Sub County Kisoro district was killed by unknown assailants on 6th this month while on official night duty at National Water and Sewerage Corporation pump station in Chuho Village, Gasiza Parish, Nyakabande Sub-county.

He was cut several times and his body dumped in the waters of the pumping station before assailants made off with his gun number umber SAR UG PS0 9069985-08751.

Elly Maate, Police Spokesperson for the Kigezi region says that the gun was recovered today at around 10:30 AM in a eucalyptus tree plantation in Kibikuura village, Lower Bugongi ward, Northern Division, Kabale Municipality.

Maate says that the gun was recovered by a farmer who was digging in his eucalyptus tree plantation buried in the soil and immediately informed the police to intervene. Maate declined to reveal his identities in order for him not to be targeted by assailants. He says that two rounds of ammunition were also recovered buried together with the gun.  Maate says that on analyzing, it was realized that the gun was buried a few days ago.

He adds that investigations into the matter have intensified since the assailants could have been using it to rob people.  The matter is registered at Kabale Central Police Station under file number SD 21/18/06/2021.
