Police investigate the death of Kanungu man

Police in the southwestern district of Kanungu is actively investigating the circumstances under which a 20-year-old man was killed.

The deceased has been identified as Wilber Byamugisha a resident of Kiziba village in Kinaaba sub-county.

He was on the 30th of November 2021 found lying unconscious on the roadside Bushengyi cell , Ngaara Parish in Mpungu sub-county and picked by relatives who rushed him to Mpungu health center III from where he was referred to Kabale regional referral hospital.

Byamugisha however died as he was being rushed to Kabale regional referral hospital for further management.

Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate says that after his death, Some relatives of the deceased crossed to Bushegenyi trading center and attacked a local bar belonging to one Goerge Turyasingura George, allegedly that the cause of death originated from a fight at that bar.

He adds that all bar properties were destroyed, some put out on the road, and burnt before they attacked another neighborhood shop and looted bags of rice and posh quantity not yet established.

He further revealed that police led by Assistant Superintendent of police Charles Muhereza managed to contain the situation as investigations into the matter continue.
