Locals cautioned against vandalizing power lines

Locals have been urged to desist from the practice of vandalizing power lines in a bid to have stable supply in the country.

The call was this evening made by the Uganda Electricity Transmission company Limited investigations officer David Ntege while speaking at an exit meeting with the leaders of Ntungamo district held in the district council hall for the constructed Mbarara-Mirama 220kV transmission line. Mirama sub-station.

Ntege revealed that while a lot of money from the tax payers is invested in putting in place expensive infrastructure,vandals have made it a challenge by targeting the vital installations thus leading to losses.

Speaking at the same meeting Ntungamo District internal security officer Maj.Frank Mutabazi revealed that some of the vandals are highly skilled and may be having prior knowledge

Bibian Kakinoni the Ntungamo district secretary for health and education who represented the chief administrative officer commended government for prioritizing investing in power infrastructure.

David Kaboyo, the outgoing Resident district commissioner Ntungamo district revealed that there is need for heavy, punitive and deterring punishments for those involved in the vandalism of power lines.

He also called for more vigilance among the locals and leaders and the need to assist police with resources to enable them track down the suspect.

The meeting was chaired by the Ntungamo district chief administrative officer Mukiibi Nasser and attended by departmental heads and the district police commander Patience Baganzi.
